Celebrating the Legacy of David Stover, IARF’s First Executive Director
August 31st - Day Two of the Conference - 7:45 - 10:45 pm - Hotel Patio
David Stover was IARF’s first Executive Director and a principle organizer of, at the time, community rehabilitation providers seeing the need to come together to advocate for the field of disability services and supports to government. His leadership legacy endures through the continued work of IARF, but also through national medical rehabilitation advocacy with the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA), the exceptional work of the Boys & Girls Club of Central Illinois, and a scholarship program with Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
To know David was to know that he was an entrepreneur as well, always seeing creative paths to overcome challenges. He saw unique talents and abilities in others, often hiring staff from a range of backgrounds and experiences, folks rarely on paths towards not-for-profit work and charitable service, but helped see them to successful careers.
David was also a fan of outlaw country and an avid listener of Willie Nelson and John Prine. There was rarely a professional or social setting where he wouldn’t be seen in a Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirt.
Join us on Thursday evening during the upcoming 2023 IARF Educational Conference & Expo on the hotel patio as we remember David with the sounds of After School Special, playing some of David’s favorite music, and maybe enjoy a finger or two of Gentleman Jack or your libation of choice. In the spirit of David's giving heart we will be raffling off many gift baskets to show our appreciation for the incredible service and dedication of attendees.
Keep an ear open for a special legacy award announcement!
